Disney Channel’s First Asian-American-Centered Show Launches With An Unusual Twist

/NEXT SHARK   Disney Channel’s new show “Andi Mack” is already making waves among audiences for its unconventional plot and its shocking twists.

The show was created by Terri Minsky, the brilliant mind behind the fan favorite “Lizzie McGuire”.

“Andi Mack” is the first Disney show to star a majority Asian-American family, and that in itself is already refreshing. However, what got viewers talking is the plot twist that was revealed by the end of the first episode. The series, which stars Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Joshua Rush, Sofia Wylie, Asher Angel, Lilan Bowden, and Lauren Tom, airs April 7th on The Disney Channel.”

The story revolves around the titular Andi Mack, a sheltered 12-year-old who, on her 13th birthday, discovered a life-changing secret. The secret, which was revealed upon the return of her cool sister Bex, is so huge that it’ll make you wonder if it was indeed a Disney show that you’ve just watched.

While the series is set to premiere a month from now, the Disney made the first episode available on the Disney Channel App, Video-on-Demand, Disney Channel YouTube, iTunes, Amazon, and Google Play. The second episode became available the same day via Disney Channel Video-on-Demand and subscribers using the Disney Channel App.

In an interview with Seventeen.com, Minsky revealed that the concept for the show was inspired by the story she read about veteran actor Jack Nicholson, who found out that his sister was actually his mother.

“When The Disney Channel called to say ‘Listen, we’re thinking we need to come up with something different and you did it for us before [with Lizzie McGuire], do you have anything?I was kind of thinking, well, yeah. But, in like a million years, I really didn’t expect them to go for it.”Minsky was quoted as saying.
