Good portraits resemble their models very closely. But there is a Polish artist by the name of Damian Lechoszest whose works of art are really unbelievable. The masterful portraits capture the likeness of the person who posed for the painting eerily like a photograph copy. The individuality of the model, not to mention the intricate details, are captured almost perfectly. This is why he photographed his models beside their painted portraits to show off his skills, and a keen eye for detail.
This talented Polish artist was so interested in how people regard paintings, particularly of themselves. He undertook studies of the psychology, biology, and physiology of vision. According to a statement, Lechoszest “tries to discern how the human eye reacts and records visual stimuli as well as how the human mind perceives the comprehensive image. ”The resulting works combine elements of realism, abstraction, and impressionism, in an effort to recreate a person’s own initial observation. The masterful works not only demonstrate the artist’s dedication to figurative painting, but also his love for Polish culture. In many of the portraits, Polish traditions, customs, and rituals that are fading away are considered. Even the selection of classical clothing and antique objects makes the artworks timeless, yet nostalgic in essence.
It seems this Polish artist does not need a camera to capture a person’s essence realistically. He lets his canvas do the magic. No doubt a modern master.
