By: Adam Albright-Hanna/Good According to his representative, Brian Bumbery, rock legend Chris Cornell died in Detroit, only hours after performing a sold-out show. While Bumbery said the musician’s family would be “working closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause,” a spokesman for the Detroit Police Department confirmed that the preliminary determination of death was due to an “apparent suicide.”
While the former lead singer of Audioslave and the massively influential grunge band Soundgarden had frequently spoken publicly about his lifelong struggle with substance abuse, recent tweets indicated that he was excited about his current tour. On Sunday, in what would turn out to be his final tweet to his wife, Vicky Karayiannis, the rocker posted this public love note to her:

The couple, who have been married for 13 years, had two children together.
While Cornell’s legacy will likely always be mostly associated with Soundgarden’s contribution to the Seattle scene in the 1990s, he continued to have success following the band’s breakup. Audioslave’s “Like a Stone,” which you can watch below, is just one example of the many beautiful contributions he made to the world of music.
He was 52.
