By: Lindsay Harp/Liftable Life is very fast paced, so it’s no wonder that people often forget to notice what is going on around them. If we could just remember to stop rushing for a few minutes each day, we would have the chance to enjoy little moments or perhaps even brighten someone’s day.
Ryan Hamilton was at a rooftop restaurant in Chicago when he noticed an incredible scene taking place on the street below. He quickly grabbed his phone and started snapping photos.

A blind Chicago Cubs fan, Yusef Dale, was struggling to hail a cab in the madness of the city after the baseball game had ended. Hamilton watched from the rooftop as other fans walked by without helping Dale.
An Indianapolis woman that was in Chicago visiting her friends took notice of the situation. As she walked out of a nearby restaurant, Casey Spelman left her friends and joined Dale on the side of the road.
Spelman asked the man if he needed help getting a cab. Dale jokingly responded, “Yeah, you sound pretty, so cabs will probably stop for you before me.”
After a few minutes of trying, a cab finally pulled up to where Spelman and Dale were standing. The pair hugged before parting ways.
Wanted to give a shout-out to this girl. No idea who she is, but we are in Wrigleyville on the rooftop of Old Crow…

Hamilton could barely believe what he had just witnessed. He was glad he had taken pictures so that this woman’s kindness could be shown.
He posted the pictures and a description of the interaction on his Facebook page, and thousands of people have liked, commented, and shared the post. Hamilton just wanted to share what he had seen because it is “awesome to see such kindness in a world that the media portrays so much hate in.”
It is also clear that Spelman did not help Dale just to get attention. She didn’t realize that anyone was watching, and she performed the thoughtful gesture out of the kindness of her heart.
“It’s cool that she’s getting recognition, but you can tell that’s not why she did it,” said Hamilton. Spelman’s kindness has inspired many who have heard about it.
Spelman says that she didn’t think much about helping Dale at the time, it was just something she knew she should do. That is certainly a testament to the kind of person that Spelman is.
